Reminders:

  • FOOD: To adhere to health department regulations, the sharing and/or warming up of food is not permitted by any student. Any donations of drinks, snacks, and/or food (individually-wrapped or family-sized packages) will be given to the Food Bank–NOT our students.
  • Lost & Found Box: Please remind your child(ren) to check the lost and found box. Every Friday all items left in the box will be discarded.
  • New Students Tour/ Informational Session: Saturday, March 14, 2009 from 11:00 – 12:30 pm New Students Tour/ Informational Session.
  • Hot Lunch: Wednesday Hot Lunch has been changed to Thursday for the rest of the Academic Year.
  • Guest Imam: Friday , March 6, The Khutba will be giving by Br. Yasir Kazi.
  • Parent Forum: Friday, March 6, 2009 at 6pm – mandatory attendance for all parents. Administration will disseminate crucial information, such as:
    • Achievement test scores & interpretations (individual score sheets will be passed out only to the parents present),
    • Marketing and recruitment for Academic Year 2009-2010,
    • Calendar of events for the remainder of the year, such as Monthly Theme presentations, Informational Sessions, Field trips, Fundraisers, Last day of school, etc.
    • PTO duties, responsibilities, and delegation of work.

Reminders:

  • Tuition payments are due tomorrow, February 27, 2009.
  • Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 11:00 – 12:30 is our Book Signing Event. Please purchase a t-shirt ($10/each) or an autograph book ($2.00/each) to support our student authors.
  • Each family is required to bring a dessert for Saturday.

  • March 1, 2009 we begin accepting applications for the Fall.
  • Friday, March 6, 2009 is our monthly Parent Forum. It is mandatory for all parents to be here for this meeting. We must discuss crucial information, such as:

    • PTO duties, responsibilities, elections calendar, and delegation of program event coordinators,
    • Calendar of events for the remainder of the year-End-of-month activities, Open Houses, Field trips, Fundraisers, Last day of school,etc.

SKFA is proud to announce and host the First Annual SKFA Author & Illustrator Book Signing Expo.

Come enjoy tea & sweets as 28 SKFA debut authors & Illustrators display their books!

Titles include: Why I Love Islam, My Role Model ~ Prophet Muhammad (peace& blessings be upon him), I Love My Islamic Academy, and A Typical Day of a Muslim Boy.

Each author & illustrator will be prepared to sign autograph books, T-shirts & more!

Immediate Updates:

  • There will be NO after-school activities this week due to achievement testing.
  • Clarification: Each family is purchasing 2 T-shirts with the content already printed on it for $10 each = $20.
  • Saturday’s Event: Each student author will have a desk displaying their books to the public. They will each have fabric pens and colored pens to sign each parent’s T-shirt and the Autograph books that will be sold.
  • The Event will start at 11am inchaallah,
  • It is mandatory for parents to bring a dish of a dessert from your choice.
  • Reminder: Hot lunch is switched from Wednesday to Thursday.

Reminder:

  • Standardized Testing begins tomorrow. Students in Kindergarten through fifth grades will betaking the California Achievement Test this week Feb. 23 – 27. Please make sure that they get a good nights sleep, a healthy breakfast and bring an extra snack.
  • SKFA Author Book Signing Event Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009 at 1:00 pm. Open to the Public.
    • Please help spread the word
    • l family and friends. It’ll be a fun event to help promote the Academy and interest new students for the Fall Academic Year 2009-2010.
    • Please make a $20 cash payment for each family by Friday, February 27th. 2 XL Natural-colored T-shirts for each parent, with forest green writing on the front “I’m a Proud Parent of a Salma K Farid Academy Author”.
    • We will make Autograph books during our breaks this week during the Achievement Tests to sell to the public

  • Science Teacher Update: Sis. Saira has begun teaching Science for all Grades 1-5. Bro. Yousef will no longer be teaching Science for Grades 3-5.

Alhumdulilah! Great News!

We just received parent/student access to Harcourt eBooks (online interactive Language Arts anthologies/textbook) today!

We received all our Language Arts Practice Books, anthologies and decodeables for younger classes, earlier this week.

We have teacher’s access to all ThinkMath! Lesson Activity Books (pdf’s for photocopying).
There is NO access to teacher/parent grading book until the 2009-2010 academic year.

Reminder

DRESS CODE: No Jeans are allowed on Fridays, except underneath a jalabia or abaya. Hijabs must be brought in for prayer.

The National Standardized Achievement test will begin Tuesday, February 24, 2009 (after the break), Insha Allah. [Recommended by the PTO Officers]

February’s Monthly Theme: Word Smart – The only homework during break for Levels 2 & 3 is authoring and illustrating his/her book. Final book due Tuesday, February 24, 2009 after the break.

Summer School Program registration start April 1, 2009 – Insha Allah.
Wednesday Hot Lunch will be switched to Thursday, starting from next Thursday after the break.
